FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
How does Sofwave treatment work?
The depth for treating wrinkles is 1.5mm in the mid-dermis. Our unique, Synchronous
Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB) technology generates heat at this exact depth in the mid-dermis. Another unique feature is our SofCool technology. Each transducer is individually cooled and in direct contact with the epidermis during treatment. This ensures a uniform effect in the tissue and repeatable, controllable energy deposition in the skin without damaging the
epidermal (outer) skin.
How is Sofwave better than other existing technologies?
Today, there are various energy-based technologies designed to treat facial lines, wrinkles and lifting. Aggressive options (such as lasers) can cause significant damage to the skin surface, leading to a long healing period, considerable downtime and may have a high risk of side effects. Even RF micro needling treatments, that have recently become popular, can be uncomfortable, risky and require downtime.
Gentler, non-invasive solutions (such as IPL and noninvasive RF) have shown limited efficacy, and in most cases, require multiple treatments.
Sofwave’s unique technology enables the controlled delivery of energy, in terms of amount and location, while protecting the skin surface withSofCoolTM, our proprietary integrated cooling mechanism. Even better, there is minimal downtime.
How many treatments are needed?
Typically, the treatment protocol calls for 1-2 treatments, depending on the patient’s skin condition.
Everything You Need to Know About the Botox Lip Flip
In the ever-evolving world of cosmetic enhancements, the Botox lip flip has emerged as a popular, non-invasive option for those looking to achieve a fuller, more defined upper lip. Unlike traditional lip fillers, the Botox lip flip offers a subtle enhancement by relaxing the muscles around the mouth, allowing the upper lip to flip slightly upward. In this post, we’ll explore what the Botox lip flip is, how it works, its benefits, potential side effects, and what you can expect during and after the procedure.
What is a Botox Lip Flip?
The Botox lip flip is a cosmetic procedure that involves injecting small amounts of Botox into the muscles around the upper lip. This relaxes the muscles and causes the upper lip to curl upward, creating the appearance of a fuller, more pronounced lip without adding volume. It’s a great option for those who want a subtle enhancement or are hesitant about using dermal fillers.
How Does the Botox Lip Flip Work?
Botox, a neuromodulator, works by temporarily paralyzing or relaxing the targeted muscles. In the case of a lip flip, Botox is injected into the orbicularis oris muscle, which encircles the mouth. This muscle relaxation causes the upper lip to flip slightly outward and upward, revealing more of the lip’s natural pink color and giving it a fuller appearance.
The Procedure:
The Botox lip flip procedure is relatively quick and straightforward:
- Consultation: Your practitioner will discuss your goals and assess your lip anatomy to determine if the Botox lip flip is suitable for you.
- Preparation: The treatment area will be cleaned, and a topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort.
- Injection: Using a fine needle, Botox is carefully injected into specific points around the upper lip. Typically 1-2 units at 4 injection sites.
- Post-Procedure: There’s minimal downtime, and you can typically return to your daily activities immediately.
Benefits of the Botox Lip Flip
- Subtle Enhancement: Provides a natural-looking enhancement without the need for fillers.
- Quick and Non-Invasive: The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes with no significant downtime.
- Temporary: Effects last about 2-3 months, making it a good option for those new to cosmetic treatments.
- Cost-Effective: Generally less expensive than traditional lip fillers.
Potential Side Effects
While the Botox lip flip is considered safe, there are potential side effects to be aware of:
- Temporary Swelling or Bruising: Common at the injection sites but usually resolves within a few days.
- Mild Discomfort: Some people may experience minor discomfort during and after the procedure.
- Temporary Weakness: In rare cases, the Botox may spread to adjacent muscles, causing temporary weakness affecting functions like smiling or drinking.
What to Expect Post-Procedure
After your Botox lip flip, you might notice immediate changes, but the full effects typically become visible within a few days to a week as the Botox takes effect. It’s important to follow post-procedure care instructions provided by your practitioner, which may include avoiding strenuous activities, not touching or massaging the treated area, and staying upright for a few hours post-injection.
The Botox lip flip is an excellent option for those looking to enhance their upper lip subtly and temporarily. With its minimal downtime and non-invasive nature, it’s a great alternative to traditional lip fillers. In case you might still be hesitant about Botox, let me address the top five myths about Botox that might be keeping you on the fence.
Myth number one: Botox is a filler that adds volume to your face.
It’s actually not. It’s a neurotoxin that targets the muscles to relax them instead of add volume to the face.
Myth number two: Botox is permanent.
It’s actually not. The temporary effect of Botox lasts around three to six months. After this period, your muscle activity will return to normal and wrinkles may reappear.
Myth number three: Botox injections are painful.
In actuality, Botox injections are pretty well tolerated by most people. The needles we use are fine and the procedure itself is relatively quick. Some patients may describe it as uncomfortable but generally not painful.
Myth number four: Botox makes you look frozen.
That’s incorrect. The goal of Botox is to soften the lines and reduce wrinkles while maintaining your natural facial expressions. Overly frozen or unnatural results are often the outcome of poorly administered Botox.
Final myth: Botox is only for women.
That’s crazy! Botox is gender non-specific and can be used by both men and women to address fine lines and wrinkles. Anyone can get Botox and treatment plan is highly customizable to anyone’s need. Now that we have covered all the misconceptions, it’s perfect time for you to take the next step and book a consultation with me so we can chat!

Is Botox Safe?
As of 2024, there are over 5,300 clinical studies (more than studies on Aspirin!) related to Botox listed on ClinicalTrials.gov. These studies cover a wide range of applications, including both approved uses and off-label investigations for conditions such as muscle disorders, cosmetic enhancements, and various neurological conditions (Practical Dermatology) (Oxford Academic) (BMJ JNNP). The broad range of studies highlights Botox’s extensive therapeutic potential and ongoing research to further understand its efficacy and safety across different indications.
